Don't have historically appropriate clothing?  No worries!  We still want you to come out and enjoy yourself.  Modern formal wear with a Regency feel is also welcome (Women - think high waisted, floor-length gowns.  Men - at a minimum dark suit and tie.)

---

While the Classic Regency Period (think Jane Austen) is approximately 10 years before the time frame for this event, you can certainly get away with wearing Early Regency!  Here's a great article by BBC that explains Regency wear and provides some inspiration.  And Fashion History Timeline does a great explanation of the 1820s as a whole.

---

Considering 18th Century or Colonial Attire?  For perspective, this event is set approximately 50 years after the American Revolutionary War.  So, if you don your Colonial Attire consider having the following excuse on the ready should someone ask you why, "Why I am wearing my fancy dress costume from the 1770s when Lafayette first graced us with his presence!"

---

Note to the Ladies:

I do not recommend court dress or long trains as they become quite cumbersome walking among crowds or dancing, and can easily be stepped on or torn.

Should you choose to wear such a garment, please ensure you have a train wrist band to help keep your train up and about you as you move through the venue and dancing.

I WANT TO LEARN SOME DANCES BEFORE THE BALL.

Check out this amazing resource at www.regencydances.org

---

ARE THE DANCE TERMS GENDERED?

We will use the terms “lady” and “gentleman,” as used in 19th C. dance manuals, for the dance roles not the person in the role.

A person in the lady’s role begins on the right side of a couple and generally steps off with the right foot. A person dancing the gentleman’s role begins on the left side of the couple and generally steps off with the left.

Pick a role and stick with it for the length of the dance you started. You can dance a different role (if you wish) for other dances in the evening.

---

You can wear clothing of whatever gender makes you feel comfortable and confident, but this doesn’t force you into one dance role or the other.

We do offer "student discounts" for High School and College-Aged participants.  ALL participants will require a ticket to enter the venue - including children.

2. This is a Formal Event.

With an expectation of formal dress, manners and behavior.  For most children this would be extremely challenging.  We would not want your child's frustration to conflict with other participants' expectations.

3.  This event is being held late into the night.

We would hate for your child to become overly tired and stressed, or stress other guests.

4.  There will be Lights/Sounds/Crowds.

The space will likely be crowded and loud.  Most young children find situations like that overstimulating and overwhelming.

Anyone behaving in a disruptive manner (from 2 weeks old to 102) will be asked to leave the event.
